Welcome to the American Center for Physics

ACP Events

On Thursday, May 6th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, the American Center for Physics will host its semiannual art exhibit reception in the first floor hallways, rotunda, and conference rooms of its College Park, MD headquarters. Immediately following brief presentations by curator Sarah Tanguy and artists Chris Bathgate and Gary Medovich on the newest exhibit, "Energy Fields," the American Center for Physics is pleased to announce a talk by fellow featured artist and internationally recognized experimental physicist Fritz Wagner. In his talk, "Physics and Art: Are there any Connections?" he will discuss the relationship between physics and the fine arts, and in particular how both mediums help us "to understand our cosmological life and explain the world."

Dr. Friedrich (Fritz) WagnerWagner received his education in physics at the Technical University in Munich, Germany. While having a passion for art, in particular painting, since childhood, Fritz began his professional career as a low temperature physicist, and then moved on to spend the majority of his professional life in fusion research. In addition to being a Scientific Fellow of the Max Planck Institute of Plasma Physics for more than 20 years, he served as the President of the European Physical Society from 2007-2009. Fritz has had two previous extended stays in the U.S., when he joined the staff of Ohio State University as a postdoc, and later in his career when he served as a visiting scientist at Princeton University. Now "actively" retired, Fritz is pleased to be back in the U.S., this time to display his paintings.

Dr. Wagner's talk will begin at approximately 6:15 pm.
